Muto City Bamboo Road

17 Jan 2026

It promised to get up into the 50s, so we headed to the Take no Michi or Bamboo Road in Muto City southwest of Kyoto, which runs past the Rakusai Bamboo Garden we'd visited in April 2025.  The road runs for a couple of miles through bamboo groves that grow the regional specially of bamboo shoots.  With fewer farmers, the groves and fences are now maintained by volunteers.  There are 8 named fence styles along the path with brief descriptions on their origins.  Unlike the hordes in the  bamboo grove in Arashiyama, we generally had this path to ourselves!
