After Barb's ikebana class ended Friday afternoon, we headed over to Nijo Castle as they had a rare opening of four inner rooms of the palace. Unfortunately there is no photography allowed inside, but it was really nice seeing how the inner, private rooms were painted in more subdued colors compared to the large paintings on gold background in the public spaces. The latter were carefully designed to convey power while the former were smaller and more intimate. We then strolled through the gardens before moving on...
