We hopped down to the Big Island for a few days
since the volcano had settled down for several months and a
few things have been re-opened. After an early flight
down Friday morning, we headed for the road they'd cut through
the lava flow to access McKenzie Park and the Pohoiki boat
ramp. We did eventually get there after a few
interesting wrong turns around Leilani Estates that
serendipitously led us to the back of fissure 8 that was so
active earlier this year.
