Kolbermoor Schäffler Dancers  in Götting

January 14, 2005

The Schäfflertanz (Coopers' Dance) is a traditional Munich & southern Bavarian dance, performed every seven years, and only between Three Kings' Day and Fasching (Mardi Gras).  All the figures and music are prescribed by tradition.  The dance is also shown in the glockenspiel on Munich City Hall.

We happened to run into the Schäfflertanz group from Kolbermoor as they performed in our little town, Götting.

Technical note: They had a pair of floodlights shining on the space where they danced, and I used the built-in flash on the D100.  All the dance pictures were taken with the Nikkor 12-24 DX, at ISO 640.
