I.I. New Year Luncheon

Ikebana International Honolulu Chapter 56 began the New Year with a buffet lunch.  Centerpieces and exhibits were to incorporate equisedum, commonly known as horsetail, to represent the Year of the Horse.  Barb gave a brief talk on the origins of ikebana and some of the associations with other arts and religion.  Assisted by Diana Salansky, she then demonstrated a Rikka Shofutai, Shoka Shofutai, and two Jiyuka.  The first Jiyuka (free style) incorporated horsetail and expressed the exploding fireworks and enthusiasm for the new year.  The second Jiyuka incorporated artificial materials into a representation of a running horse, later referred to as a Pink Pony...
