A day sightseeing in Kyoto, visitng three of the most important sites there.
Kinkakuji and Ryoanji are two of the most frequently visited
sites in Kyoto. The building you see at Kinkakuji
was rebuilt 50 years ago, and the history is somewhat
murky.
Ryoanji is the quintessential Zen dry garden - the current layout dates from 1799 (most likely).
Katsura
Imperial Villa is one of my favorite places - it was built
in its current form about 350 years ago. The combination
of architecture and garden design
are pretty much the pinnacle of Japanese culture. I just
wish I could arrange for better light when I visit.
