Ikebana Demonstration

17 & 18 March 2018

Following the Banquet, the visiting professors participate in a game in which teams attempt to complete Rikka Shofutai arrangements, having to use their chosen material for a specific part of the arrangement as the names of the component parts are randomly drawn, resulting in some very strange arrangements.  The next day headmaster Sen'ei Ikenobo demonstrate several arrangements followed by headmaster-designate Senko Ikenobo.  These demonstrations are wrapped up with the staging of a sample Marawi-ike ceremonial competition.  The Marawi-ike was established in 1806 by Senjo Ikenobo to improve the arrangers skills.  The host would provide various plant materials and have the participants draw lots to see who gets which ones.  A judge would later critique each one, indicating what was good and what was not so good, and proclaim a winner.
