Ikebana Events in San Francisco
15-19 January 2010
We attended a 50th Anniversary Celebration luncheon for Ikebana
International, and various events for the 42nd Anniversary of Ikenobo
Ikebana American Headquarters.
The II luncheon included an exhibit by several schools of ikebana and a
fashion show of comfortable clothes with an Asian flair.
Ikenobo kicked off events with a reception for an exhibit by master
professors who toured the US in the last 10 years.
The next day there was a demonstration by 5 instructors, and a game in
which 54 visiting professors from the last 42 years arranged rikka
shofutai in 6 teams -
each member brought one branch, leaf or flower and had to arrange it as
one of the 9 main branches in the order they were drawn from a bag -
resulting in some of the strangest ikebana I've ever seen! We had
a huge banquet that evening and a quick workshop the next
morning.
In between Roger and I got out to see a little of San Francisco and ran
down to Monterey
on Monday...
